Joel Barnes is Honorary Research Fellow in the School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry at the University of Queensland, and Historian in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney.

His work focuses mainly on histories of science, knowledge and universities in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. He is the co-editor with Ian Hesketh of a forthcoming volume on the global history of Darwinian commemoration (University of Pittsburgh Press).
