Mahendranath Sudhindranath is a Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai, India. He was the recipient of the Future Environmental Leader Scholarship 2023 from the DAAD-funded Global Water and Climate Adaptation Centre (ABCD Centre).

His doctoral research work titled ‘Water, State, and People in Princely Travancore’ probes the hydrological relationship between the rulers, their subjects, and religion – taking the case of the princely state of Travancore (encompassing areas that are part of the present- day states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu), from the mid-eighteenth to mid-twentieth centuries. This looks into the environmental history of colonial India in the context of a princely state. He holds a Bachelor’s in History from Loyola College, Chennai, India, and a Master’s in History from the University of Delhi, India.
