I am Emeritus Keeper at the Science Museum in London, formerly responsible for science and medicine.

I am writing a book to be published by Harvard University Press under the title The Genome and the Soul. This will explore the tension between materialist scientists and religious believers over the nature of identity and the role of physico-chemical reductionism in the first two thirds of the 20th century particularly in France, Britain and the United States.
