University of Birmingham

8th – 12th April 2024, University of Birmingham, UK

We invite expressions of interest to participate in The International Research Network for the Study of Science and Belief in Society’s Early Career Researcher (ECR) Workshop 2024.

The fully-funded in-person ECR Workshop (8th – 12th April) will be hosted at the University of Birmingham, UK, and is aimed at any early career researcher whose work explores any social or cultural aspect of Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths or Medicine (STEMM) in relation to any religious, spiritual or non-religious tradition, position or worldview, including unbelief. During the week we will explore research grant development, academic writing, networking and mentoring with established scholars in the area, among other discussion and skills-based sessions.

The workshop is open to any researcher who holds a PhD in a relevant subject area, but does not yet have a permanent position in academia, and is no more than 10 years post PhD. The workshop is open to researchers from a range of disciplines across the social sciences and humanities, including (but not limited to) sociology of religion, psychology of religion, science and technology studies, sociology of health/medicine, media and cultural studies, social anthropology, politics, the history and philosophy of science/religion and religious studies.

If you are accepted to participate in the ECR Workshop all meals and accommodation will be provided. In addition, for those who do not have institutional support for workshop attendance or preparation time, we will provide honoraria to support attendance. If you are accepted onto the ECR workshop, we will be in touch to inform you of the exact honorarium amount that we are able to offer. Unlike previous years, this workshop is not taking place attached to the main INSBS conference. Therefore, ECRs are also encouraged to apply for the INSBS Conference separately.

Please note: The deadline for applications has now passed. Everyone who has submitted an application will be notified of the decision.

The event is organised by the International Research Network for the Study of Science and Belief in Society, and is funded by the Templeton Religion Trust.
