Dr. Mark Okowa is an academic and project development expert with a distinguished career in social and political sciences and research. He holds a PhD in Political Studies from the University of Aberdeen, UK, an MA in International Relations and Political Science from the University of Westminster, UK, and a degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Maseno University, Kenya. His expertise encompasses transitional justice, conflict transformation, and public policy.
Currently, he is a Lecturer at Tom Mboya University (TMU) in Kenya, where he also coordinates Programmes and Examinations for the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. He initiated and coordinates the collaboration between TMU and Robert Gordon University (RGU) in the UK.
Mark’s research focuses on several critical areas, including the political economy of transitional democracies, policy and development in Africa, and the interplay between religion and health-seeking behaviours. His work aims to improve governance, policy outcomes, and healthcare delivery in Kenya.
His contributions extend beyond academia into community development and social responsibility. Mark has been honoured with several awards, including the University of Aberdeen Elphinstone PhD Scholarship Award, the University of Westminster International Scholarship Award, the Global Social Entrepreneur Award, and the Global Knowledge Partnership Youth and ICT Award.
